Watts Remodel

Watts Remodel
2015

A duplex from the 1930s in Southgate near Rice University had been awkwardly combined into a single family house. Since the original space for the kitchen on the first floor was now too small, the wall between the kitchen and the dining room was demolished to allow for a larger kitchen and breakfast area. Doorways to the playroom and living room were widened so that anyone in the previously enclosed kitchen now has a view to the main living areas. On the front of the house, the useless second floor balcony and first floor concrete stoop were replaced with a deep porch and the upstairs windows were made uniform. This was a design-build project.
